From a monitoring and control standpoint, the most important module is
Supervise. It's here that the mimic is on-line and continuously reflects
changes in the process. It's also here that operators and plant personnel are
given tools for a quick and effective overview and intervention.
The Active Alarms list is always present and can be brought up in
three separate ways: by clicking on its icon on the mimic, by clicking on its
icon in the Windows system tray and by clicking on the minimized program
name on the Windows status bar. The alarm list provides an instant
overview of the total number of active alarms in the process, what condition is
causing the alarm, where the process component is located that's in an alarm
state, the date and time of alarm activation and much, much more. Alarm
acknowledgement is a simple mouse click away and the acknowledging operator can
be logged. Please see the topic: Alarm Precision and Flexibility
From the Graph menu in Supervise, graphs and trends on process
components are easily accessed by the operator. These graphs are either
pre-configured by the system designer or they are generated on-the-fly by
the operator himself. Time intervals are also user or operator defined for how
far back in time the trend curve is to be extended. Please see the topic: Graphs and Trends

Report generation is also an integral part of Supervise. Under the
User Programs menu, the operator can himself generate the two types of
standard reports included with the IGSS system, the Snapshot report and
the Periodical report. These can instantly be viewed on screen or they
can be printed out. Please see the topic: IGSS Reports
Toggling the Mimics
If it's necessary to toggle between
several mimics in the process, the desired mimic is easily found in the
Diagram menu and chosen. Alternatively, the system designer can include
buttons directly on one mimic or diagram, which when clicked upon by the
operator, immediately brings up the next required mimic or
diagram.
Each Step on Its Own Screen
The Supervise mode can
also be shown across several monitors, if required. This is practical in
situations where an overview of the process is needed as separate screens
reflecting the individual phases in the process. Please see the topic:
