The UF/UP leak detection module compares measured values of flows and
pressures at selected locations with simulated values of the same variables.
A statistical method—SPRT (Sequential Probability Ratio Test)—is used for
quickly determining that the difference between the measured and simulated
values have reached a significant level, which indicates a leak.
For each pipeline section, a real-time state estimator is implemented and
controlled by a subset of the flow and pressure measurements available from
the SCADA system. The estimator will provide you with a number of UF and UP
leak responses and a pressure profile along the pipeline section. All leak
responses for the section are analyzed using the SPRT method in order to
detect possible leaks. If a leak is detected, the pressure profile is
analyzed
so that the leak can be located.
